Wednesday was mostly spent shopping outside the Tuley’s Takes home office and then watching ole alma mater, Northern Illinois in an exciting MACtion.
During this time my best bet was to sail as the Bulls (+1.5) led the Blazers 63-48 at halftime as it turned out to be a very good day. Northern Illinois took a 33-27 overtime win to go from worst to first in the MAC West and secure a berth in the MAC Championship game, but the Bulls sort of lost their lead and didn’t. failed to cover a 112-107 loss to take away some of the luster of the night. We’ve made it through the day of the bump and now turn our attention to the football weekend, but first recap the overall betting action on Wednesday as well as taking another chance against an NBA underdog on Thursday night.
BFC: Northern Illinois defeated Buffalo 33-27 in overtime to win the MAC West and earn a berth in the MAC Championship game. The Huskies covered as the 2-point road favorites and the game was over 59 on the overtime winning touchdown. The Michigan center (2.5-point fave on the road) routed Ball State 37-17 as the game remained under 57. Thus, the favorites were 2-0 on the night and the favorites / midweek MACtion dogs are now 8-8 ATS this season. Over / Unders split 1-1, so MACtion Unders in midweek leads 3-2 this week, but Overs still leads 10-6 this year and is 58-25-2 (69.9%) in the last 5 years .
NBA: The favorites went 9-2 SU on Wednesday, but only 6-4-1 ATS with the push over the nets (-10 in the 109-99 win over the Cavaliers). The surprises came from the Pistons (+ 6.5 against the Pacers) and Magic (+ 11.5 against the Knicks). Unders went 9-1-1 with the push in the Pelicans-Heat game (211) and improved to 136-85-3 (61.5%) during the season.
CBB: George Mason beat No.20 Maryland 71-66 as an underdog by 9.5 points + 425 on the silver line as the game remained under 141.5). The rest of the Top 25 teams in action won and covered, with the exception of No.8 Texas (-21.5), who failed to cover in their 62-49 win over North from Colorado.
NHL: The favorites and the dogs were divided 1-1 with the game between the Capitals and the Kings in the Capitals’ 2-0 win. The only upheaval came from the Blackhawks (+130 in a 4-2 victory at the Kraken). The only winning favorite was the Avalanche (-155 in a 4-2 win over the Canucks). Over / Unders went 1-1-1 with the push on Avalanche-Canucks (6).
Cavaliers + 8 against Warriors: The Warriors are on a roll and have just picked up a big win at the Nets, but that’s a point of disappointment (plus Stephen Curry is listed as dubious with a hip injury, so maybe we take a break. and rest). But this is more of a bet on the Cavs as they have beaten expectations this season at 9-7, but even more impressive 10-5-1 ATS as they are led by Darius Garland (16, 8 points and 6.7 assists per game) and Ricky Rubio (14.7 points per game).
These are my best Point Spread Weekly bets as we update them based on changing lines with advice on whether to bet now or whether to wait.
Friday CFB: Southern Mississippi + 16.5 at Louisiana Tech: There are still some 16.5s left, so grab those as most pounds are at 16 or even 15.5.
South Alabama + 28 in Tennessee: It has drifted all the way to +28.5, so wait and see how far it goes.
Florida State + 2.5 at Boston College: It’s down, so take the best line you can.
Louisiana + 4.5 to Liberty: It’s pretty solid at 4.5, but I would grab it ASAP instead of risking missing it.
Wake Forest + 4.5 in Clemson: Take 4.5 if you can because most pounds are at 4.
Baylor picks them up in the state of Kansas: Some of the books went to K-State -1, so I’d wait and see if that goes any higher.
NFL + 10 Lions for the Browns: This was done before they knew Jared Goff was questionable (of course Baker Mayfield is being assaulted as well). I am waiting for us to have a more precise idea of who will be able to start.
Colts + 7.5 to Bills: Most pounds are reduced to +7, but take 7.5 if you can.
Washington + 3.5 at the Panthers: Try to grab the hook at -110 if you can, although most pounds are at -120.
Cowboys + 2.5 at Chiefs: Some pounds went down to -120 on the Chiefs -2.5, so hopefully we can get +3.
Giants + 11 at Buccaneers: BetMGM fell to 10.5 but I still have hope that the public will bet higher over the weekend.
Good luck today (and every day!).
