Tan vs Andreescu US Open pick and odds: Bet on the Canadian for a cruise

Bianca Andreescu’s US Open run begins with a match against Harmony Tan.

The pre-game story: Andreescu returns to the site of his first and only Grand Slam title. She’s a heavy favorite against a struggling Tan.

Check out our Tan vs Andreescu US Open picks for August 29.

Tan’s pick over Andreescu at the US Open

  • Andreescu -5.5 games (-115)
  • Andreescu -1.5 overs (-195)
  • Less than 17.5 games (+175)

Tan’s pick over Andreescu at the US Open

Best bet: Andreescu -5.5 games (-115)

It’s really the only way to bet directly on Andreescu without paying a ton of vig.

The Canadian is a big favorite (-625) on the moneyline. A bet on her to win in straight sets (-195) is a bit more acceptable, but not ideal. Winning by six games or more is a challenge, but an Andreescu should be in place.

Tan has really struggled since qualifying for the fourth round at Wimbledon. The Frenchwoman hasn’t made it past the second round in her last three tournaments.

What makes Tan hard to trust is his inability to convert his serve into wins. The 24-year-old ranks 154th in the WTA with a service win percentage of 60.3%. Andreescu is by no means elite in this regard, but she is at least tied for 56th with a 69.6% service win percentage.

Tan is also inferior to Andreescu in the second leg. The Canadiens rank 51st with a 37.6% return win percentage while Tan is tied for 81st with a 35.1% return win percentage.

Andreescu’s 108-33 career record on the hard court is also far more impressive than Tan’s 57-43 record.

Key stat: Tan has lost each of his last two tournament openers by six games or more.

Quick Picks

Andreescu -1.5 sets (-195): There’s a lot of juice to pay for this bet, but only so many ways to bet on Andreescu. The 22-year-old is expected to earn a straight-sets win over Tan.

Andreescu has won three of his last four tournament openers without dropping a single set. Also, Tan’s most recent match was a 0-2 loss to Clara Tauson in the first round at Tennis in the Land.

Less than 17.5 games (+175): With hopes of a quick win for Andreescu, betting less on that number makes sense.

Tauson has beaten Tan in just 16 matches at Tennis in the Land and two of Andreescu’s last three first-round wins have come in fewer matches. This is an indirect way to bet on a quick win for the Canadian at plus-money odds.

Odds at 4:55 p.m. on 08/26/2022.
