For the 2021 BET Awards, women will take center stage as hosts Taraji P. Henson and icon Queen Latifah are honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The annual party honoring black culture promises a night of celebration of “the year of the black woman” and by the looks of the arrivals on the red carpet, the magic of black girls shines brightly.

Watch the first weekend of the Essence Festival of Culture, including performances by Jazmine Sullivan, Lucky Daye, Tank and more.

The celebrities attending the awards show are there “with the humans” as Henson jokes in her opening monologue at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. On the carpet, the star’s power heats up with the killings of Chloe Bailey, HER, Marsai Martin, Ari Lennox and of course our Essence of Culture Festival headliner and cover girl Jazmine Sullivan.
